Pure and Peaceable Thoughts
I floated within a warm pond, at total peace. I bobbed beneath the water and saw strands of golden wire swell and become white gold glowing globes that rose until they bobbed up to the surface. As I came up for air, I saw to my delight the pond’s surface was entirely covered in these charming globes. I then stepped out of the water and became clothed in these white orbs.
Delighted, yet still confused as to what the orbs were, I asked the Lord.
He replied, “What if you were clothed in your own imaginations? What if every thought within your mind came floating to the surface, and you then were required to wear these thoughts and imaginations?”
“Would you be clothed in beauty or in putrid slime?”

Immediately, the following scripture came to mind.
Pure and Peaceable thoughts
“Finally, [a]believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].” (Phil. 4:8, AMP)
I began to really think about how I would spend my time and how I would feed my imagination if I was required to wear them. If everyone could see what my heart contained.
“The good man, from his [inner] good treasure, brings out good things; and the evil man, from his [inner] evil treasure, brings out evil things.” (Matt. 12:35, AMP)
Would I spend more time on making sure that my imagination and thoughts held beautiful and pure things, or would I let it wander toward the mucky side of the pond as my mind tended to do?
To be honest, if my thoughts were visible, I would take much more care and spend all my extra time in getting more of the Bible into my heart. I would play Christian music all day long and search out scripture.
Our culture would need to shift its thought process on what it considered beautiful and on what was important to spend their time on. We wouldn’t spend money on make-up, we would spend it on devotionals and other Biblically based media.
But we don’t live in that world. We live in this world and unfortunately we have so many opportunities and fun media events to pull us into murky influences. My personal murky tendencies are toward dramas on TV that contain way too much violence and vengeful actions.
Do you believe what you watch and listen to affects what you think about and what you imagine to do in your life?
What do you watch or listen to that you would change if your thoughts and imaginations were visible?
Prayer for you and me: Lord, teach us to control our thoughts and keep them in the light. Train our hearts to run after You. After what is noble, beautiful and Truth. Let our love for You be strengthened. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
